What is Shiatsu?
Shiatsu is a form of Japanese massage that uses finger pressure to stimulate certain points on the body. Shiatsu is based on Traditional Chinese Medicine principles of rebalancing the flow of energy in the body by stimulating acupuncture points and working on energy channels on the body. It's designed to both relax and invigorate the body, restore and maintain the body's energy.
What to expect during a Shiatsu treatment?
During a Shiatsu session, you are fully clothed and lying comfortably on a treatment table. The practitioner uses their fingers, thumbs and elbows to apply pressure to parts of the body's surface to help heal common ailments and conditions, and correct imbalances in the body. Shiatsu can be used to enhance physical health and emotional wellbeing, as well as manage stress, muscle tension and fatigue. It can also help improve circulation, boost the immune system, and balance the nervous system.
Why try Shiatsu?
If you have a fear of needles, but are interested in exploring Traditional Chinese Medicine therapies, Shiatsu is an excellent alternative. The practitioner uses manual pressure instead of needles to activate the same acupuncture points and energy channels targeted in acupuncture. The practitioner works to balance the flow of energy throughout your body, which can help alleviate various ailments, promote relaxation, and enhance overall wellbeing.
